2014-2015 Chevrolet Malibu 2016 Malibu Limited (VIN 1) Equipped with Start/Stop System (RPO KL9)
Some 2014-2016 Malibu models equipped with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine (RPOs LKW, LCV) may have an illuminated Check Engine MIL and the following DTCs set in the Engine Control Module (ECM): P305F - Dual Battery Control Module Performance
The configuration in this system uses two batteries a primary battery in the front and auxiliary battery in the rear of the vehicle. The dual battery control module switches the primary battery and the auxiliary battery in and out at appropriate times to support vehicle loads and battery charging. During engine crank, the auxiliary battery is switched in to supply voltage to the vehicle loads (except the starter motor which receives voltage from the primary battery) and the ECM monitors the auxiliary battery voltage through the IGN input.
The ECM monitoring the auxiliary battery voltage through the IGN input. If has a discrepancy with registry values, PCM sets code P305F and light the MIL.
1.- A loose ring terminal at the negative battery terminal. 2.- Faulty front or rear battery. 3.- Low battery voltage (Charge). 4.- Harness to battery is open or shorted. 5.- Poor electrical connection in battery circuit. 6.- Fretting or corrosion on female terminal pins in the 4-pin connector 7.- A defective Dual Battery Isolation Module
1.- Get both battery check and replace if not good. 2.- Check and clean all grounds. 3.- Look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded component connector terminals. 4.- Check all aftermarket Adds and visually inspect the related wiring harness. 5.- If none of these conditions are found, replace the DBIM. The DBIM is located on the fuse block assembly, which requires replacing the Battery Distribution Fuse Block and wiring harness connector.
